Program Officer, Western Canada – Canada Council for the arts
Term: 3-year term
Location: Edmonton
Salary Scale: $59,953 to $72,330

Summary: Under the direct supervision of a Section Head in the Arts
Division, assists the Canada Council in the implementation of an initiative
designed to increase support for professional artists, arts groups, and arts
organizations in Western Canada with a focus on Alberta. The incumbent
provides information services and support to the arts community in Western
Canada including Aboriginal, culturally diverse, and francophone
communities.  S/he manages a program of assistance for individual artists,
arts groups and arts organizations according to established policies and
procedures and liaises between the Canada Council and the arts community in
Western Canada, as well as with the Council’s partners in those provinces.
Frequent travel throughout Western Canada and to Ottawa are required.

Experience: The incumbent must have experience in public arts funding as
well as knowledge an understanding of the arts community in Western Canada
in particular and in Canada in general.  This understanding is normally
acquired between three to five years’ experience in a related field and
experience directly related to the principal responsibilities of the
position.

Working environment and travel: The normal working environment is an office
where much of the work is done in front of a personal computer and on the
telephone. In addition, the incumbent is required to travel 60-90 days per
year.  Due to the highly irregular working hours and the need to coordinate
travel plans for outreach activities, the incumbent, in consultation with
the Head, Arts Services Unit, must plan a monthly work schedule to maximize
his or her time and to minimize administrative costs.

Language requirements: This position requires the use of both official
languages. Requires an intermediate level of speaking, reading and writing
in the second official language.
